Names and distribution: Swiss pear, also known as the Wild Service Tree, botanically Sorbus torminalis, belongs to the Rosaceae. It is widespread in Central Europe, inter alia in Hesse, Germany.

Appearance: similar to european pear, but stronger in color and slightly denser.

Use: Furniture, turnery wood, tonewood for musical instruments
