Names and distribution: Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is native to Mexico down to Panama, Central America. Rare

Appearance: The ground color varies considerably from tree to tree. Ranges from yellow-brown to red with dark streaks. Cocobolo  has relatively large pores, spread over the cross section in a uniform manner. Sapwood and heartwood are sharply demarcated. Deposits in vessels can be seen in longitudinal cuts. One of the most decorative timbers available.

Properties: The density of Cocobolo is about 1.05 - 1.10 t/m³ at u = 12%. When drying large cross-sections, there is a risk of cracking and surface checking. Processing is easy. Smooth surfaces can be obtained. Mucosal irritation may occur in the processing of cocobolo.
